A global threat to the marine environment is microplastics (MPs) contamination. This study, unique in its comprehensive approach, analyzes microplastic pollution in Bushehr Province's marine environment along the Persian Gulf. In this context, sixteen coastal stations were designated for this project, resulting in the collection of ten fish samples. MPs in sediment samples displayed a mean abundance of 5719 particles per kilogram in the various samples. Black sediment samples predominantly comprised 4754% of the MPs, followed closely by white at 3607%. Concerning MPs found in fish, the highest MP concentrations measured in various fish samples were 9. Furthermore, a noteworthy observation among the fish MPs was that over 833% exhibited a black coloration, followed closely by red and blue, accounting for 667% each. Improper industrial effluent disposal is the likely cause of the presence of MPs in fish and sediment, necessitating improved measurement techniques to enhance the marine environment.
Mining, unfortunately, often produces significant waste, and its substantial carbon footprint contributes to the growing atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions. An attempt is made to examine the possibility of employing discarded mining materials for the sequestration of carbon dioxide through the mechanism of mineral carbonation. Limestone, gold, and iron mine waste characterization, encompassing physical, mineralogical, chemical, and morphological analyses, evaluated its potential for carbon sequestration. Samples exhibited an alkaline pH range of 71-83 and contained fine particles, key to promoting divalent cation precipitation. Limestone and iron mine waste exhibited a substantial concentration of cations, including CaO, MgO, and Fe2O3, reaching 7955% and 7131%, respectively; these high levels are crucial for the carbonation process. The microstructure analysis underscored the presence of potentially formed Ca/Mg/Fe silicates, oxides, and carbonates. Calcite and akermanite minerals were responsible for the significant portion (7583%) of CaO found in the limestone waste. The iron mine's residue included 5660% iron oxide (Fe2O3), mainly magnetite and hematite, and 1074% calcium oxide (CaO), a result of anorthite, wollastonite, and diopside decomposition. Waste from the gold mine was found to have a lower cation content (771%), which was largely associated with the presence of illite and chlorite-serpentine minerals. The average potential for carbon sequestration in limestone, iron, and gold mine waste was between 773% and 7955%, translating to 38341 g, 9485 g, and 472 g of CO2 sequestered per kilogram, respectively. For that reason, the presence of reactive silicate, oxide, and carbonate minerals in the mine waste implies its practicality as a feedstock for mineral carbonation. Waste restoration at mining sites, coupled with the utilization of mine waste, offers a valuable approach to combating CO2 emissions and mitigating the global climate change crisis.

Identifying the role of parenting practices in transmitting psychological symptoms from parents to adolescents is a core question in the study of intergenerational psychological symptom transmission. This research investigated the mediating function of mindful parenting in the context of parental anxiety and its relation to youth emotional and behavioral difficulties. At six-month intervals, three longitudinal data waves were collected from 692 Spanish youth (54% female) between the ages of 9 and 15 years and their parents. Path analysis indicated that the impact of maternal anxiety on youth's emotional and behavioral difficulties was mediated by maternal mindful parenting. Concerning fathers, no mediating influence was found; conversely, a marginal reciprocal relationship was observed between mindful paternal parenting and the emotional and behavioral challenges of youth. Employing a multi-informant, longitudinal approach, this study examines a key aspect of intergenerational transmission theory, revealing a relationship between maternal anxiety, less mindful parenting, and resulting emotional and behavioral difficulties in youth.

Recently developed nanocarriers are designed to eliminate the drawbacks of chemotherapeutic agents, by capitalizing on the unique properties of nanocarriers. Controlled and targeted release procedures are characteristic of the effectiveness of nanocarriers. This study introduces a novel approach of encapsulating 5-fluorouracil (5FU) within ruthenium (Ru) nanocarriers (5FU-RuNPs), offering a means to address the drawbacks of conventional 5FU treatment, and the subsequent cytotoxic and apoptotic activity on HCT116 colorectal cancer cells is compared with that of un-encapsulated 5FU. 5FU-RuNPs, approximately 100 nm in size, demonstrated a cytotoxic potency 261 times higher than free 5FU. In the analysis of apoptotic cells, Hoechst/propidium iodide double staining was utilized, and the expression levels of BAX/Bcl-2 and p53 proteins, representative of intrinsic apoptosis, were examined. 5FU-RuNPs were additionally found to lessen multidrug resistance (MDR), according to measurements of BCRP/ABCG2 gene expression. The fluorescence signatures at 525 and 675/720 nm, observed in the emission spectra of both oil types, indicate the presence of carotenoids, vitamin E isomers, and chlorophylls, enabling quality control. The quality of various oil types can be assessed using the fast, reliable, and non-destructive analytical method of fluorescence spectroscopy. The investigation into the temperature-induced changes in their molecular composition involved heating the samples at 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 170, 180, and 200 degrees Celsius, with each sample held for 30 minutes. This was undertaken as both oils are utilized in cooking, notably in the process of frying.
