under 18 months and over 24 months of age at first fitting was compared.

Results: By 19-21 months of hearing age both hearing and Cl user’s vocabularies were of similar size. CI users developed a lexicon earlier than hearing children, but once hearing children started to acquire words their acquisition rate was faster. The distribution of words acquired per category were similar. 83% of first words were shared by both groups. No significant difference in performance was found between: hearing versus: implanted children; or earlier (<18 months) versus later (>= 24 months) implanted children.

Conclusions: The vocabulary of hearing children compared to CI users are similar in size and the category. We report a case of a 26-year-old female patient with Fanconi anaemia and severe chronic active hepatitis C virus infection. Her past medical history included treatment with multiple blood transfusions and bone marrow transplantation at the age of 13. The decision to treat the infection was taken, and history of hematologic disease contributed to the introduction of therapy with leukocyte interferon-alpha n3 and ribavirin combined with a granulocyte – colony stimulating factor. The treatment was well tolerated and after 48 weeks a reduction of the viral load and alanine aminotransferase activity were achieved. No adverse effects on bone marrow functioning were noted.

“Pancreas transplantation (PT) remains a developing practice in Latin America.

From 1996 to 2009, 506 PTs were performed by our team in the following categories: simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK), simultaneous deceased donor pancreas and living-donor kidney (SPLK), pancreas after kidney

(PAK), and pancreas transplant alone (PTA). Enteric drainage was preferred for SPK and bladder drainage for solitary PT or SPLK. Immunosuppression was with tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, and steroids, and anti-lymphocytic drugs were used to induce solitary PT and SPLK.

The series includes 254 SPK, 60 SPLK, 94 PAK, and 98 PTA. The one-yr patient survivals were 82% for SPK, 90% for SPLK, 95% for PTA, www.sellecn.cn/products/nocodazole.html and 93% for PAK.
